STAFF REPORT

The honors keep coming in for Montezuma-Cortez High School standout volleyball player Casey Bauer.

She was named to the elite All-Colorado Team (all classifications) by the Denver Post. She was chosen Class 4A Player of the Year after averaging a state’s best 7.1 kills per game this past season.

That honor comes on top of being the leading vote-getter for the Southwest League All-Conference First Team and after helping MCHS to third place in the Class 4A State Tournament.

Bauer, who last week signed at an NCAA National Letter of Intent with Division I Colorado State University of the Mountain West Conference, played this past Sunday, Nov. 10, played in the All-State Volleyball Games.

Bauer finished the day with 11 kills, one of the highest totals among 90 players in the day’s competition at Broomfield High School in the All-State Games, sponsored by Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports. Her Red team won the Class 4A match, defeating the Blue 15-9, 9-15, 25-22 (third games in the five-match event used a rally-scoring format to 25 points).

She also recorded three solo blocks for the match.

In 2A, Laura Swanson's hitting and Dolores’ Amanda Cross' blocking keyed a Red Team win, 15-11, 4-15, 25-19. Cross, a senior who helped Dolores to an appearance at the Class 2A State Tournament, was named All-San Juan Basin League First Team the week before. She had three kills, and three blocks during the game.
