Nov. 17, 2001

THE FOUNDATION for the new starting gate has been poured. The long-awaited Cortez Bicycle Moto-Cross Track, located near Parque de Vida on Empire Road, will be open this Sunday for the first-ever American Bicycle Association-sanctioned races. The races will take place at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17. A long signup period will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Riders interested in participating must have an American Bicycle Association membership. The cost is $25 for 30 days or $45 for a full year (to date of purchase). Those interested will also need to bring a parent or guardian along to sign release form. Riders should bring a helmet and have pads on their bike. They need to wear long-sleeved shirt, long paints and no open-toed shoes.
