October 25, 2001 STAFF REPORT Roger Nelson of Cortez is the winner of week number six of the National Football League weekly contest which appears Tuesday editions of the paper. Nelson missed four as did Joseph Maestas and Vickie Maslen. However, Nelson won on the tiebreaker. "I went with my gut feeling for a lot of those games," Nelson, who works at Wal-Mart Supercenter in Cortez, said. "It was a hard week. There were a lot of upsets." Most of the time Nelson checks the records and then guesses from there. He also normally picks Denver, but he had an uneasy feeling about San Diego. Indeed it was a hard week. Basically, the prognosticators had a lot of problems choosing which team would win. There were several surprises. A lot of people around here are die-hard Denver fans and they went with their heart. Many people picked Green Bay to win, but it didn’t. Washington’s win over Carolina was a shocker. Nelson said he has been playing the contest a little more than a year but has never won. He said he has come close a time or two, but he’s never won the weekly prize. A $50 check is in the mail. For the losers who have not already won, a consolation prize will be given away at the end of the season through a drawing. Here are the valid entries and the way they placed:
