SW Showdown Jr. Rodeo cowboys, cowgirls pick up buckles, saddles

WE’VE GOT THE SADDLES and now we need the horses. More saddles were passed out recently at the annual Southwest Showdown Junior Rodeo Awards ceremony. Receiving saddles and buckles were (top row, left to right): Bradley Dennison, Joetta Lytle, Roessel Jackson, Kacy Pickens, Jana Baker, and Tee Baker; (front row): Logan Hindmarsh, Justin White, Dylan Long, Shavargus Noyes, Jonna Gallegos, and Levi Noyes.

The Southwestern Showdown Junior Rodeo held its 2001Series Awards recently.

Winning a buckle in the age 2-3 group for girls was Shavargus Noyes. The buckle was sponsored by Cortez Electric. Cassidy Leonard placed second while Cassie Finley and Charmayne Palmer tied for third, and Danielle Hoch finished fifth. The 2-3 Boys winner was Dylan Long. The buckle was sponsored by McKinley Custom Sleepers.

Taking the Girls 4-5 age bracket for the Stickhorse Race was Jonna Gallegos. The buckle was sponsored by High Country Cattle Auction. There was tie for first for the 4-5 Boys. Logan Hindmarsh and Levi Noyes were the top cowboys in the Stickhorse Race. The buckle(s) were sponsored by High Country Cattle Auction.

A lot of competition happened in the Girls 4-5 division. Gallegos took first, Taylor Presnell second, Tabor Woosley third, Brenna Leonard fourth, Brandi Borgen fifth, Whitney Finley sixth, and Tegan Woosley seventh. The saddle was sponsored by Touchstone Energy (La Plata Electric and Empire Electric). Again the Boys 4-5 bracket saw a lot of tough competition. Justin White grabbed first, Levi Noyes second, Logan Hindmarsh third, Shawn McKinley fourth, Dillon Daves fifth, and Jay Daves sixth. That saddle was sponsored by Nielsons Construction Inc.

The 6-8 Girls bracket was one of the largest. It also was a very competitive division. Jana Baker captured first, Bailey Schurr second, Toni White third, Hayley Hensley fourth, Kacia Show fifth, Cydney McHenry sixth, Kacey Schurr seventh, Kayla Jackson eighth, Tana Show ninth, and JayCee Gallaher 10th. Participation awards were presented to Shelby Caughey, Elicia Coulon, Shae Green, Elisabeth Hoch, Colleen Palmer, and Abby Pickens. The saddle was sponsored by Gordy’s Family Restaurant. Tee Baker was the saddle winner in the Boys 6-8 division. Garrett Presnell captured second and Dustin Goodall third. The saddle was sponsored by Mancos Redi-Mix.

The 9-12 Girls age group also had a large number of participants for the four rodeos which were held all summer long at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds. Kacy Pickens took first place. She was followed by Amber Moore, Jordan McHenry, Kayla Dennison, Jessica Norris, Kaleigh Kimbull, Tawnee Woosley, Sydni Morgan and Ryan Pickens, Shaylie Boyd, and KatyGene Jackson. Participation honors went to AnnaMarie Carter, Kailee Caughey, Sorrel Huntington, Heather McKinley, Kady Meyer, and Krista Rieb. The saddle was sponsored by Navajo Butane and MFE West. For the boys in that age bracket, Roessel Jackson was the winner. Dalton Hindmarsh, Cody Meyer, Lana Gallaher, Randy Wright, and Jeremy Coulon followed, respectively. The saddle was sponsored by Rocky Mountain Seamless Gutter.

Joetta Lytle won the saddle in the Girls 13-17 group. Mary Hoch placed second, followed by Melissa Linscott, Rae Buffington, Marie Hoch, Tina Honaker, Sheila Wallace, Haley Howell, and Holly Buffington. The saddle was sponsored by Rocky Mountains Rentals and R. Tucker Construction. Bradley Dennison was the winner for the boys. Bradly Apple came in second and Butch Show took third. The saddle was sponsored by Precision Drywall and the Meyer Family (in memory of Myrtle Meyer).

The sponsors of the rodeo series were: Navajo Butane and MFE West, Rocky Mountain Seamless Gutter, Precision Drywall and the Meyer family, Nielsons Inc., Touchstone Energy, Rocky Mountain Rentals, R.
