PAGOSA SPRINGS — The 11th and last mountain bike event of the Four Corners Cup Mountain Bike Points Series will be held Sept. 23.

This year’s course is different from in years past and will be held in the Turkey Springs area, about 10 miles east of the center of town.

To get to the race starting line, from U.S. Highway 160 turn north at the news stoplight in Pagosa onto Piedra Road and follow it until it turns to a gravel road. The start/finish will be in the parking lot to the left of the cattle guard. The course is currently marked at 3 miles for the novice/children, 10 miles for beginners, 27 for sport riders, and 32 for expert/pro category.

Awards, three deep, for all classes and categories will be distributed. Pro and semi-pro riders will be awarded cash.

Preregistration is $20 until Sept. 17. Racers can also register Saturday afternoon, the afternoon before the race from 12-4 p.m., and the morning before from 8-9:30 a.m. The race information packet will include trail maps, race socks, a power ball t-shirt, an awards barbecue luncheon ticket, and more. Awards for the race and series ending points tallies will take place after the final rider has finished, about 1 p.m.

The Four Corners Cup is a mountain bike point series held in conjunction with 11 races held throughout the Four Corners area. Points are awarded for each race finished. Entry fee into the series is a one time fee of $15. The fee, paid at the time of registration, provides racers with registration forms for each race, point updates at each race, and awards for point winners at the final race in Pagosa Springs on September 23rd. Each city/race director is responsible for it's own race, insurance, awards, entry fees, routes, etc.

The seventh annual Chuska Challenge benefit mountain bike ride will be held in the Chuska Mountains Oct. 6-7.

The event, a fully-supported riding traveling roads and trails between the Navajo Tribal chapters of Tsaile and Red Valley, traverses some of the most spectacular high-country on the reservation at the height of its fall colors.

Registration includes hearty meals throughout the weekend, a T-shirt, sag support, break stations on each day and evening entertainment. All proceeds will benefit the Tour de Rez Trekss, which sponsors outdoor adventure programs for reservation youth throughout the year.
