Four States Junior Rodeo getting ready for season

The Four States Junior Rodeo will be kicking off its sixth winter season in October at the Montezuma County Fair-grounds in Cortez.

The first rodeo of the 2001-02 season is scheduled for Oct. 20-21. All rodeos will be held in the indoor arena at the fairgrounds.

Information and entry forms will be mailed out the first part of September to anyone who competed in the 2000-01 series.

The other dates are Nov. 17-18, Dec. 1-2, Jan. 5-6, and Feb. 17-18. Contestants must compete in four of the five rodeos to qualify for the end-of-year awards. The 9-11, 12-14, and 15-19 age groups will compete on Saturdays. The 5-Under and 6-8 age groups will compete on Sundays.

The 2000-01 season ended with an arena full of contestants receiveing awards. The saddle donors were Ute Mountain Casino, Southwest Auto Center, Vectra Bank-Colorado, Lazy G Arena, and Winning Attitude embroidery.

The buckle donors were: LD and Tresa Gleeson, Four States Trail Sales, Mountain Chiropractic, Haygood Trucking, Candelaria Construction, KC Home and Development, Keesee Motors, Choice Building Supply, Steve Keetch Motors, West Slope Liquors, Citzens State Bank, Bedrock Building Supply, Barney Rowe Memorial, Alan Rowe Horseshoeing, Mancos Valley Bank, Slaven’s Tru-Valu Hardware, Cortez Livestock Auction, Fraley and Company Inc., Lansing Construction, Jarmon Irrigation, Anasazi Motor Inn and Restaurant, Notah-Dineh Trading Co., Benny and Ann Gordanaire, and Comfort Air.

Door prizes were donated by Montezuma Vet Clinic, Intermountain Farmers, First National Bank of Cortez, Four States Tire, Quality Farm, Community Bank, Basin Coop, Auto Zone, Big O Tires, Ute Mountain Casino, and Winning Attitude Embroidery.
