Sarah (Sutter) Glover comes to Dolores County High School a renewed enthusiasm for the much beleaguered volleyball program.

The team has gone through many, many coaches over the past decade. She makes the third one in as many seasons. She replaces Scott Crawford who left the school in order to go back to college in Kentucky. Crawford, who also coached boys basketball, had never played the game but tried to coach the sport. He replaced Melissa Wilson who guided the team for two years before Tammy Herrmann had it another two years and before that was Calista Fedde.

"I want to bring the program back and get them back to the State Tournament (Fedde, now at Crowley County, guided the Bulldogs to their only State appearance six year ago)," she said. "They didn’t get a lot of instruction last year but that already is changing."

Glover played an outside spot for Montezuma-Cortez High School and graduated in 1997. She also ran track for three of her four years.

She is 22 years old is married (Mike) and they have one child.

She brings in some collegiate experience. She played two semesters for Western State College before a career-ending injury curtailed her college volleyball career. She then transferred to Mesa State College in Grand Junction with a degree in public relations and a minor in dance. She did play some club volleyball while in school.

Already there is a lot interest in the program.

"We have enough girls that we will have not only a junior varsity but a C-team as well," she said.

Glover, though, has never coached, not even C-team or junior varsity. But now she is head coach at Colorado 2A high school.

"I’m looking forward to all of this (coaching). There is a lot of stuff I have to do, not only on the floor but off the floor (as a transportation school district employee walked in during the interview and handed her the bus travel schedule). I knew I would like it. I thought I would be nervous about it, but I’m not. The girls are great and they understand that I’m new to this. They have done whatever I’ve asked them to do," she remarked.

DCHS fans are hoping this will be the start of a long tenure by Glover.
