Rodeo hands picking up series points

BUTCH SHOW, who competes in the 12-16 age group, rounds a barrel during the second Mesa Verde Stampede Rodeo at the Wild Wild Rest Arena. Another rodeo will be held this Saturday at the arena, located about a mile east of the Mesa Verde National Park entrance.

The second installment of the Mesa Verde Stampede Summer Rodeo Series is now in the books. Area youngsters are picking up points earned towards end-of-season awards.

The Mesa Verde Stampede Family Rodeo Series, the third in a series, will get under way at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at the Wild Wild Rest Arena.

Signup is set from 9-10 a.m. the day of the rodeo with an entry fee of $2 per event except for sheep ($5). The events include pole bending, barrel racing, flag, keyhole, boot race, stickhorse, and stickhorse barrel. Also there will be relay, rawhide, ribbon, and jackpot barrels. Age groups are 4-and-Under, 5-7, 8-11, 12-16, 17-25 and 26 up.

Concessions will be available.
