Local golf team to compete for regional crown in Denver

May 19, 2001

Under clouds drifting like sailing ships through a clear blue sky, the 2001 Oldsmobile Scramble was contested at Conquistador Golf Course on Saturday May 12. This annual event featured eight teams of four players each in a format that emphasized team strategies. The district qualifier was won by the team of Blair Pyle, Kelly McCabe, and Stuart Stroud of Cortez and Charles Pierce of Durango with a two stroke margin of victory and a team score of 61.

Second place went to the team of Ralph Haynie, John Gray, Randy Jack Jacobson, and Tom Bryant, all of Cortez.

The winning team will now be joined by Conquistador Golf Course PGA Professional Micah Rudosky to compete for the regional crown August 15, 2001 at Riverdale Dunes Golf Course in the Denver area.

The winner of the Oldsmobile regional competition will advance to the Oldsmobile Scramble Final at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida October 3-7, 2001.

Steve Keetch Motors of Cortez sponsored the local district event. This is the second year Keetch Motors has sponsored the Oldsmobile Scramble district qualifier.
