May 19, 2001 Dive into an early start on the swim season and join the Cortez Leopard Sharks Summer Swim Club. All children who enjoy the fun of swimming should come and check out the team. The swim team started practice at the Ute Mountain Recreation Center Pool in Towoac. Preseason practices are being held at 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Regular-season practices begin June 1. Swimmers of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to join the team. By signing up now, swimmers will get an extra month of practice and coaching instruction before the Cortez City Park Pool opens at the end of this month. Team members enjoy the benefits of stroke instruction and critiques from MCHS head coach Mark Knox. Some of the team members elect to compete in weekend swim meets at various sites on the Western Slope while others join just for the fun of swimming but choose not to compete.
