April 14, 2001 The Cortez Youth Wrestling Club members have been busy lately. Many of them have been placing in several of the tournaments, sponsored by the Four Corners Wrestling Association. They will compete at Dove Creek today, April 14, and then participate in meets at Dolores on April 21 and Aztec, N.M., April 28. Here are some results as provided by a club spokesperson of some recent tournaments: At Bloomfield last Saturday, April 7, a total of 15 placed. In Division I, Jacob Gallegos captured first place and Colton Eidenier took fourth. In Division II, Garrett Presnell captured first place and Ryan Daves, Nacody Hinton, and Jungle Cooper placed second. Kole Chadwick, Dalton Daves, Josheph Maestas, and Chasen Simonson all came in first. Casey Lynn took second; Ross Ham, Keenan Garcia, and Jess Mortensen took third and a fourth, according to information from the organization. Andrew Durall, in Division IV, came in third. The group also had a good tournament at Bayfield on March 24. In Division IV, Kyle Almon came in first place, Chance Simonson grabbed second, Anthony Maestas third, and Josh Gentry fourth. Division III is where they really did well. Garcia, Lynn, Joseph Maestas, Aaron Presnell, and Chasen Simonson all won championships. Jesse Blakely grabbed second while Shawn Armstrong, Chadwick, and Daves all came in third. Three won titles in Division II. They were Devin Fox, Garrett Presnell, and Austin Short. Ryan Daves took third. Jacob Gallegos won in Division I. The local organization hosted its annual Cortez Invitational in Ron Wright Memorial Gym at Montezuma-Cortez High School on March 17. The home team was not very hospitable as many of the team placed high. Matthew Daniel and Gallegos both took top honors in Division I. Ryan Daves won twice in the Division II while teammates Rooster Foster and Garrett Presnell came in second, Fox and Hinton placed third and Cooper grabbed fourth. Division III wrestles did very well that day. Chadwick, Garcia, Lynn, JosephMaestas, Aaron Presnell, and Chasen Simonson all won their weights. Stefan Chihocky and Dalton Daves came in second while Mortensen placed third. In Division IV, Chance Simonson won an individual title while Michael Quezada came in second and Allmon and Anthony Maestas grabbed thirds. In Division V, Lamont Littlewhiteman came in first and Kellen Benally finished in second. Division I grapplers did well at Farmington on March 10. Daniel and Eidenier won their weight classes, Gallegos came in second and Cole Jeter third. Division II wrestlers also did a nice job. Foster, Garrett Presnell, and Short all captured crowns while Wrangler Hinton came in second. The Division III group turned in some solid performances. Garcia, Lynn, and Maestas won. Aaron Presnell and Chasen Simonson came in second while Chadwick and Chihocky took thirds. In Division IV, Anthony Maestas came in first, Quezada third, and Anthony Chavez and Josh Gentry fourth. They did well at Ignacio on March 3. In Division I, Eidenier won while Gallegos came in second and Jeter fourth. In Division II, Ryan Daves captured first, Short finished in second, and Hinton third. In Division III, Chadwick, Lynn and Aaron Presnell won their weights, Joseph Maestas and Garcia came in second, Chasen Simonson and Blakely placed third while Shawn Armstrong and Angelo House came in fourth. In Division IV, Chance Simonson came in second and Chavez third. In Division V, Littlewhiteman and Bradley Dennison grabbed second, Benally placed third, and Jephrey Gray and Jesse Johnson fourth. |
