Division of Wildlife brings hunters new CD-ROM

April 3, 2001

DENVER — The Colorado Division of Wildlife and Colorado Outdoors magazine are teaming up to bring hunters a new interactive CD-ROM packed with valuable hunting information.

The "Colorado Outdoors Big Game CD" is loaded with harvest data and trends for all big game species dating back to 1990. The CD also includes over 2000 maps, all with zoom features to get the typical sportsman many steps closer to those areas they seldom see.

Previous years’ statistics on success rates can be pulled up to strategize this year’s hunting area. This, coupled with the CD’s information on each GMU’s location, climate, vegetation, terrain, weather, elevation, hunter access, services available, land status as well as big game winter/summer ranges, can be vital to planning a safe and successful hunting trip.

One of the best parts of using this CD is being able to print the maps you need. The maps are very detailed and topographical. "This is increasingly valuable to help show the hunters what type of hunt he or she can expect," said Pat Trahey, Colorado Outdoors editor. "Herd movements are also included. Match this with the type of terrain and it will not only aid convenience but also add a strategic advantage for the hunter."

The CD-ROM itself costs $44.95 plus $3 dollars for shipping and handling. To order, contact Division of Wildlife offices, or phone 303-297-1192.

The CD was originally developed by Hunt Data, Inc., found on the WEB at www.biggamecd.com .
