Mar. 20, 2001 Cole Allison, a senior at Montezuma-Cortez High School, was recently chosen the Outstanding Wrestler for Class 4A by the Colorado High School Wrestling Coaches Association. Allison, who captured his second straight individual state title at the Colorado Wrestling Championships in mid-February, won the 171-pound title. He finished the season with a sparkling 41-1 record, including winning four straight bouts at the state tournament. He won the 160-pound class the year before with a 41-0 mark. For his career, Allison was a four-time State qualifier and two-time champ. He qualified for Regionals four straight times, including placing as a freshman and sophomore before winning titles as a junior and a senior. He ended an outstanding career with a 137-7 record. He was chosen as his team’s Outstanding Wrestler at the annual awards banquet held Monday night, March 19, in the MCHS Commons. Allison is signed and sealed and soon will be delivered to the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley when he starts his collegiate career this fall. Tyler Gray was named the Outstanding Junior. He finished third at the state tournament at 119 pounds. He is a three-time state qualifier. A total of 19 letters were passed out Monday night, according MCHS head coach Mike Allison. |
