Dolores girls, Nucla boys dominate All-Conference

Dolores High School girls and Nucla boys dominated the San Juan Basin League All-Conference Basketball Teams announced Monday, March 12.

Jennifer Trevillian, a junior, was chosen to the All-Conference First Team (Girls). Teammates and twins Tracy Everett was chosen Second Team while Joni Everett was named Honorable Mention. DHS first-year head coach Rob Mellott was chosen Coach of the Year.

Also making the First Team were senior Kerri Morgan from Mancos, Cassidy Haught of Norwood, Chelcy Boss of Nucla, and Chelsey Padilla of Telluride.

Making the Second Team were Sydney Melzer of Telluride, Brianne Dillan and Tristan Morgan of Nucla, and junior Rachel Hightower of Dolores County.

Katie Paxton of Mancos and Lancie Marolf of Norwood were also chosen Honorable Mention.

Nucla had two teams make First Team (Boys). Michael Epright and Chris Robuck were honored. Senior Justin Schmitt of Dolores, senior Jesse Rousset of Mancos, and junior Keith Pierce of Dolores County also were on the elite list.

Two Nucla players also were on the Second Team. Chris Been and Josh Hainey were listed. Joining them were senior Bill Baker of Mancos, junior Cullen Zion of Dolores, and Ben Waddell of Norwood.

Travis Clark of Mancos, Waylon Bennett of Dolores, Justin Dolezal of Norwood, Shawn Ficklin of Nucla, and Justin Ludwig of Telluride were all named Honorable Mention.

Mike Epright of Nucla, who announced his is not going to return next season, was named Coach of the Year.

Dolores girls ran through the regular season undefeated and lost their only game to eventual Class 2A State champion West Grand at Regionals. Nucla boys won the outright league and District titles and earned a berth at State. Nucla had a senior-laden team on th boys’ side. The Mustang girls, who finished second at Districts, also earned a berth at State. Mancos boys, who finished second at Districts, also advanced to State.
