Mar. 7, 2001 Canyon Sports and Jack’s Plastic Welding will present a world-premiere adventure film featuring daring whitewater kayaking on March 10 at the Koko’s Conference Center, located at the Holiday Inn Express in Cortez. Showtime is 7 p.m. and admission is $5. The film, called NURPU, is the latest by Teton Gravity Research, a Wyoming-based organization that specializes in documenting extreme outdoor excursions and sports. The 16 mm film gives close-up footage of TGR kayaking crews and others as they negotiate huge drops and wild whitewater in rivers flowing through Nepal, Austria, Chile, Argentina, Oregon and elsewhere. The quirky kayaking culture is also highlighted throughout the two-hour film. The event is a benefit for the San Juan Citizens Alliance. There will be lots of door prizes and a cash bar. Tickets will be available at the door, or in advance at Canyon Sports, 20 E. Main St. in Cortez. Call Canyon Sports at 564-9703. |
