CMS students work to build wall

Feb. 17, 2001

Students from the Cortez Middle School are fundraising to build a bouldering wall — a type of climbing wall that is not high, and will not require harnesses or rappelling skills to use.

First semester physical education classes held a "Hot Shot Blitz" basketball shooting contest for participating students to gather money for the wall. This will be done again during the second semester.

Winners of the blitz, who brought in $20 or more and/or shot well in the contest were: Anthony Presnell, 8th grade; Alexis Sheek, Kayla Kerekes, J.B. Martin, Marissa Turner, Erin VanDeventer and C.J. Tucker, 7th grade; Natalia Dominguez, Ben Carrasco, Skyler Schrage, Cole Smith, Kyle Allmon, Lee Anderegg and Scott Dean, 6th grade.

Those students bringing in $60 or more received gift certificates to Kokopelli Bike and Board, Howard’s and Gardenswarts for sports equipment. Other prizes were supplied by Fiesta Theater, Rocky Mountain One Stop and Animas City Rock. The middle school thanks all participating students and sponsors.
