CHSAA honors several Mancos students

AURORA — A total of 12 Mancos High School students made the First Team Academic All-State and another eight were Honorable Mention All-State for the Fall 2000 Sports and Activities Season sponsored by the Colorado High School Activities Association.

Making First Team were Greg Cummings, Scott Koppenhafer, Jesse Rousset, Stacy Martinez, Sven McNeil, Katie Paxton, Nick Rubino, Ryan Shepherd, Alicia Show, Kelley Smith, Micah Sucherman, and Natasha Walton. Named Honorable Mention were Travis Clark, Glen Jongs, Chacey Morris, Jon Pospisil, Katie Rosso, Rachel Russell, Kendra Schmittel, and Janine Wince.

No Dolores, Dolores County or Montezuma-Cortez High School students were chosen. However, sometimes information from the athletic director does not get sent in on time for the formal announcement from CHSAA.

The Colorado High School Activities Association announced 3,080 students earned First Team or Honorable Mention recognition from 83 different high schools.

First Team honors are given to those students with 3.60 (4.0 scale) or higher grade point average. Students with grade point averages of 3.30 to 3.59 earn Honorable Mention honors. Each student will receive a certificate in acknowledgment of his or her academic achievement.

"The Academic All-State program continues to showcase the impressive students we have in our state," CHSAA commissioner Bob Ottewill said. "This program is one of just a few that honor those special individuals who have succeeded in the classroom as well as their chosen activity or activities."

To earn Academic All-State status, a student must be a significant contributor on his or her athletic team or a major contributor in his or her activity (music, speech, student council). They must meet the specific academic criteria of the program. The must be a participant in one or more CHSAA-sanctioned activities and be a junior or senior in academic standing.
