Nov. 11, 2000 The MCHS girls’ volleyball team had a disappointing day Friday at the state championship tournament in Denver, winning one match but losing another. The Panthers, who were seeded No. 1 in the Class 4A tournament and were 23-1 going into the tourney, defeated Pine Creek of Colorado Springs in an early match 15-17, 15-7, 15-5. But later in the day they lost to No. 5-seeded Lewis-Palmer High School 13-15, 15-6, 7-15. The Panthers still have a shot at the title. They were to play Mullen of Denver at 7 p.m. Friday; the results were not available at press time. A win there would mean MCHS might be playing in the semifinal match Saturday around 10 a.m. — depending on the results of other games. A win in the semifinals would put the Panthers in the championship game at 4:45 Saturday in the Denver Coliseum. A loss to Mullen would eliminate them from tournament play. |
