Montezuma-Cortez, Dolores County, and Mancos high schools are all celebrating Homecoming Week this week. Dolores celebrates the annual fall rite next week.

As usual, the week is filled with many activities for students and sports fans alike.

At MCHS, the theme is ‘Decades - Celebrating Pieces of the Past’ to showcase the different eras at the school. The Powder Puff football game (senior vs. junior girls) is slated for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, for Panther Stadium. Admission is $1 for those events to help defry costs of Homecoming events.

The parade begins at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, in downtown Cortez. The Homecoming football game will kickoff at 7 p.m. that day. Delta comes to town for a key Class 3A Western Slope League game. At the half, the crowning of the king and queen will be held. The weeklong activities ends with the Homecoming Dance from 8-11 p.m. Saturday evening in the Montezuma County Annex. MCHS Alumni are invited to the dance this year. The cost is $2 per person.

Dolores County has many events planned. All throughout the week is Spirit Week. Classes competed for Spirit Points by dressing up this past Monday. At the end of the week, the class with the most spirit points will receive a pizza party from the Student Council.

The Bulldog varsity volleyball team hosts Bayfield in a nonconference game beginning at 6 p.m. (junior varsity takes the court at 5) today, Oct. 3. Wednesday is the Powder Puff football game at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the practice field at Weber Park. The game will pit seniors-sophomores against freshmen-juniors.

After the parade will be a spirit rally. At 5 p.m. the Homecoming Volleyball game will feature a San Juan League game against Dolores in Bulldog Gym. Following that game will be the bonfire north of the football field at Weber Park, beginning around dusk.

On Saturday, Oct. 7, the undefeated Bulldogs (5-0), will open San Juan League play by hosting rival Dolores at 1 p.m. Royality will be announced and crowned at halftime. A MORP dance will be held (girls ask guys) will run from 7-9 p.m. at DCHS.
