A good showing was made recently at the 51st annual Cortez American Legion Junior Rodeo at the Post 75 Arena.

The (age) 2-3 Stick Horse event was won by Taylor Presnell. Stetson Hamilton took second, Whitney Finley third, and Nicole Kibel fourth. The 4-5 Stick Horse placers were Lane LaRue, Cassie Colbert, Logan Hindmarsh, Chessie Kimble, and Levi Noyes.

The 6-10 Boys Calf Riding event saw plenty of action. Kolton Roofe won the event while Jacob Gustamantes took second, Cody Rieb third, and Austin Norris fourth. In Girls 6-10 Breakaway it was Kayla Dennison taking first. In Boys 6-10 Breakaway Dustin Goodall came in first while Logan Colbert took second.

Cody Meyer was the winner in the Boys 11-14 Breakaway. The top placers in the Girls 11-14 Barrels were Joetta Lytle, Kristyn Calhoon, Elizabeth Hunter, Caitlin Colbert, and Rae Buffington. The 6-10 Girls Barrels placers were Jessica Norris, Kaleigh Kimble, Kayla Dennison, Savannah Simmons, and Jordan McHenry. Placing in 6-10 Boys Barrels were Crockett Colbert, Austin Norris, Logan Colbert, Garrett Presnell, and Dustin Goodall.

The 3-5 Sheep Riding event is always interesting. Levi Noyes took first, Justin White, second, Kyle Likes third, Tyler Weir fourth, and Courtney Randolph fifth.

Taking the Boys 11-14 Steer Daubing was Cody Meyer. He was followed by Randy Wright, Bradley Dennison, and Josh Shell. The 6-10 Girls Pole Bending placers were Jordan McHenry, Kacia Show, Haley Hensley, Kayla Dennison and Jessica Norris. Placing in 6-10 Boys Poles were Crockett Colbert, Logan Colbert, Garrett Presnell, and Dustin Goodall. Girls 11-14 Poles placers were Khrysta Russell, Caitlin Colbert, Joetta Lytle, Kailee Caughey, and Holly Buffington. Capturing 11-14 Boys Poles was Bradley Dennison. He was followed by Cody Meyer, Dalton Hindmarsh, Randy Wright, and Michael Waggoner.

The top placers in the 6-10 Girls Goat Tying were Rita Treinen, Jordan McHenry, Ashley Goodall, Kaleigh Kimble and Tana Show. Taking the Girls 11-14 Goat Tying was Elizabeth Hunter. She was followed by Khrysta Russell, Kristyn Calhoon, Caitlin Colbert, and Holly Buffington. The 15-18 Bareback placers were Jake Gordanier and Sandy Tozer. Cody Samoza won the 11-14 Steer Riding event.

The 6-10 Father-Daughter Roping event saw Kayla Dennison and Kevin Show take first, Krista Rieb and Stanley Goodall second, Tana Show and Kevin Show third, Ashley Goodall and Daren Goodall fourth, and Savannah Simmons and Jerrod Simmons fifth. The 6-10 Father-Son Roping event saw Kent Schmidt and Kit Schmidt take first, Crockett Colbert and Marcus Colbert second, Torey Gordanier and Shane Gordanier, Dustin Goodall and Dane Goodall, and Logan Colbert and Bently Colbert. In the 11-14 Father-Daughter Roping it was the team of Caitlin Colbert and Bently Colbert, Krysta Russell and Davey Russell, Kailee Caughey and John Rowley, and Elizabeth Hunter and Justin Jeter.

Capturing the 11-14 Father-Son Roping event was Randy Wright and Boss Wright while Bradley Dennison and Kevin Show took second, and Caleb Valdez and Manny Valdez grabbed third. The 15-18 Father-Daughter Roping saw Lacey Haygood and Bob Haygood win. The top placers in 15-18 Father-Son Roping were Sandy Tozer and Bruce Tozer, Matt Betts and Paul Betts, Layne Frazier and Doug Frazier, Ryan Buffington and Darryl Buffington.

The 15-18 Barrels finishers were Brendee Bauer, Amanda Frazier, Lacey Haygood, and Mary Hoch. The 11-18 Ribbon Roping Event saw Matt Betts-Amanda Frazier take first, Sandy Tozer-Brendee Bauer second, Ryan Buffington-Rae Buffington third, and Jake Gordanier and Khrysta Russell fourth. Placing in 15-18 Poles were Lacey Haygood, Marie Hoch, Amanda Frazier, and Brendee Bauer. David Patcheck won the 15-18 Boys Calf Roping event while Sandy Tozer finished second. Taking 15-18 Girls Goats were Mary Hoch, Brendee Bauer, Marie Hoch, and Lacey Haygood. Sandy Tozer won 15-18 Bulls. Lacey Haygood and Sandy Tozer took first place in 11-18 Team Roping while Lane Frazier and Matt Betts grabbed second.
