'C' game added to today's v-ball
A "C" team game has been added to the lineup for today’s, Sept. 19, volleyball match between visiting Durango and Montezuma-Cortez High School, according to MCHS Activities Director Mike Allison.

The "C" teams will go at it at 4:30 p.m. The JVs will tangle at 5:45 p.m. and the varsities at about 7 p.m. in Ron Wright Memorial Gym.

The Panther boys soccer game against Aztec, N.M., will start at 5 p.m. today at Norman Johnson Memorial Field. MCHS is not fielding a junior varsity team this year.

 

SW Softball Assoc. sets meeting
The Southwest Softball Association will be holding an end-of-the-year meeting on today, Sept. 19, in the Calvin Denton Room at Empire Electric. The meeting is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

All coaches need to attend in order to turn in equipment. Anyone interested in next year’s season is encouraged to attend.

 

Race for the Rock Run slated
SHIPROCK, N.M. — The annual Race for the Rock 10-kilometer run, being held in conjunction with the 2000 Northern Navajo Fair, is set for Oct. 5.

Entry forms and registration will be taken at the Shiprock Department of Youth/Community Services office. The race will begin at the east side of the Shiprock High School Gymnasium at 3 p.m. on the day of the race. Fees are $15, if received by the DYCS office by 4 p.m. Oct. 4, otherwise they are $18, including day of the race. Tee shirt will be given to all registered participants. Special awards will be given to the top female and male winners. Various other prizes will be given away.

A special 3-mile fun run/walk will also be held. That event will start at 5:15 p.m. The goal of the event is to promote healthy lifestyles and physical fitness. The fee for 3-mile event is $10 for those preregistered and $12 day of the race.

Horse training clinic slated
BREEN — Roy Yates Horse Training and Reining Clinic is set for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 23-24, in Breen. Limited space is available for classes.

Team Triathlon set Sept. 23
DURANGO — The San Juan Mountains Association is sponsoring its fifth annual Share The Trails Team Triathlon on Saturday, Sept. 23. The event will consist of one mountain biker, one horseback rider, and one hiker. Prizes will be awarded to the teams coming closest in their estimated time it takes to complete the course at Log Chutes Trail.

Volunteers are needed to help with the event. They are needed to help with timing, manning stations, parking and course monitoring. A cleanup day is set Sept. 9 in order to get the trail ready.

Team members and volunteers are also invited to a Pre-Triathlon Party on Sept. 22 the Animas City Rock.
