M.V. Stampede Rodeo ends long summer series

The final Mesa Verde Stampede Rodeo was held Aug. 26 at the Wild Wild Rest Arena, located about a mile east of the Mesa Verde National Park entrance.

For the aged 5-7 Goat Race it was Chance Hurst who took first, Shae Green finished second, Shelby Caughey third, Levi Noyes fourth, and Cole Boyd fifth. In the 8-11 Goat Race, Cody Rieb won, followed by Shalie Boyd, Cody Meyer, Jennie Rieb, and Tyler Jones. Rae Buffington captured first in the 12-16 Goats and Holly Buffington came in second. Luann Meyer won the 26-plus and Art Meyer finished second.

Shavargus Noyes won the 4-Under Key Hole Race. Caughey took first in the 5-7 group with Levi Noyes second. Jennie Rieb won the 8-11 event while Cody Meyer placed second, Jones third, Kady Meyer fourth, and Shannon McCall fifth. Melissa Linscott won the 12-16 race. Holly Buffington came in second, Rae Buffington third, Heather Beecher fourth, and Kenny Ward fifth. In the 26 plus age group, it was Luann Meyer, Art Meyer, Nancy Thurman, Brad Reed, and Kim Show.

Shavargus Noyes took the win in the U-4 Boot Race. Levi Noyes won in 5-7, Cody Rieb captured 8-11 while Jennie Rieb came in second. Rae Buffington and Holly Buffington finished 1-2, respectively, in the 12-16 bracket. In the 26-plus group, John Dodson grabbed first place, Justin Show took second, and Reed third.

Shavargus Noyes again was the victor in the U-4 Barrel Race. In the 5-7 age group, Chance Hurst came out with the best time. Caughey came in second, Green third, and Levi Noyes fourth. In the 8-11 division, it was Cody Meyer, Jennie Rieb, Boyd, and Cody Rieb. The 12-16 placers were Amanda Frazier, Linscott, Holly Buffington, and Shon Sinclair. The 26-plus bracket saw Paula Frazier capture first while Jean Oliver placed second, Luann Meyer third, Dodson fourth, and Dawn Ward fifth.

The Big M Race finishers in the 5-7 age group were Green, Levi Noyes, and Caughey. In the 8-11 bracket, Jennie Rieb won while Cody Meyer placed second, Cody Rieb third, and Jones fourth. Linscott took first in the 12-16 division. Rae Buffington came in second, and Heather Beecher third. The 26-plus winners were Luann Meyer, Dodson, Ward, and Thurman.

The Flag Race winner in the U-4 division was Shavargus Noyes. Green won the 5-7 group while Caughey took second and Levi Noyes third. In the 8-11 bracket, Cody Meyer captured first and Shaylie Boyd second. The 12-16 placers were Linscott, Rae Buffington, and Holly Buffington. In 26-plus, first went to Luann Meyer, second to Dodson, and third to Ward.

Pole Bending was interesting and had quite a few entries. Shavargus Noyes won the 4-U set. Levi Noyes, Caughey and Green were the top placers in 5-7. Jennie Rieb, Boyd, Cody Meyer, and Christa Cannon placed in 8-11. Rae Buffington won 12-16 while Amanda Frazier came in second, and Linscott third. In 26-plus, the winner was Oliver.

Hurst, Cole Boyd, Levi Noyes, Kolton Roofe and Caleb Cannon all were timed in 6.0 seconds in the Mutton Bustin’ competition.

Oliver won Jackpot Poles and Krista Rieb came in second in 30.56 and 33.94, respectively. Krista Rieb came in first in 17.31 and Cody Meyer second in 17.50 in Jackpot Barrels. The placers of the Relay Race were Luann Meyer and Cody Meyer (first) and Justin Show and Bradley Dennison (second). The Ribbon Race placers were Justin Show and Krista Rieb with Reed and Dodson second. Rita Roofe and Dodson won the Rawhide Race while Justin Show and Kenny Ward placed second.

Sarah Show said she wanted to thank all those who attended and participated in the rodeo series.

"I enjoy putting on the rodeos for the families of this area," she said. "They are fun for me and all of you."
