Stampede Rodeo slates one more family rodeo Saturday

Kodi Ward of Cortez tries to hang on during the Mutton Bustin competition at the Mesa Verde Stampede Rodeo Series which was held recently at the Wild West Rest Arena. The final rodeo will be held this Saturday at the arena, located about a mile east of the Mesa Verde National Park turnoff.

The Mesa Verde Stampede Rodeo has one more date for family rodeos at Wild Wild Rest Arena, located 2 miles east of the Mesa Verde National Park entrance.

The final date is set Aug. 26. Signup will be from 9-10 a.m. The rodeo will begin at 10. This is the last of a summer series.

The age groups have been expanded from youth to all ages. The age groups are 4-and-under, 5-7, 8-11, 12-15, 16-25, and 26 plus. There will be jackpot races with the first payback at 50 percent and second paying 35 percent. Most entries are still $2 per event. The events include stick horse (4 and under), key hole (5-7), poles (8-11), barrels (12-15), Big M (16-25), and flag race (5-26 plus). There will also be jackpot races with the first paying 50 percent and second 35 percent of first earnings. All ages are welcomed to compete in the jackpot.

There will be concessions. Fans should bring chairs and an umbrella for shade.

Here are the results from the rodeo held at the end of July:

The 5-7 (age division) Ribbon Pull saw Shae Green take first place, followed by Kolton Roofe, Levi Noyes, and Shelby Caughey. The 8-11 Ribbon Pull placers were Cody Rieb, Krista Rieb, Shaylie Boyd, Cody Meyer, and Tyler Show.

The 12-16 Goat tie winner was Butch Show.

Sharvargus Noyes won the 4-U Stick Horse Flag event. Taking the 5-7 Flag Race were Caughey, Green, and Levi Noyes. Cody Meyer won the 8-11 Flag Race while Tyler Show, Kady Meyer, Tyler Jones, and Chelsie Rosas placed. Capturing first in the 12-16 Flag Race was Melissa Linscott. She was followed by Kenny Ward, Rae Buffington, Levi Lewis, and Shon Sinclair. The 26-plus age group placers were Shawn Treinen, Luann Meyer, Brad Reed, Janet Green, and Dawn Ward.

Sharvargus Noyes also won the 4-U Stick Horse Barrel Race. The 5-7 Barrel placers were Caughey, Shae Green, and Levi Noyes. Cody Meyer won the 8-11 event and was followed by Krista Rieb, Cody Rieb, Kady Meyer, and Tyler Show. Linscott captured the 12-16 Barrels event and was followed by Lewis, Rae Buffington, Butch Show, and Holly Buffington. In the 26-plus division, Brian Lopez took first, Jamie Phillips second, Treinen third, Art Meyer fourth, and Luann Meyer fifth.

The Big M Race in the 5-7 age group saw Shae Green come in first, Caughey in second and Levi Noyes third. Krista Rieb was the winner in the 8-11 Big M Race and she was followed by Cody Meyer, Anna Carter, Cody Rieb, and Jones. Linscott again was the winner in that event for the 12-16 age bracket. She was followed by Rae Buffington, Butch Show, Holly Buffington, and Lewis. Luann Meyer was the winner in the 26-plus division and she was followed by Lopez, Susie Caughey, Dawn Ward, and Art Meyer.

Pole Bending 4-U winner was Sharvargus Noyes. Shelby Caughey won 5-7 Pole Bending and she was followed by Shae Green and Levi Noyes. The 8-11 placers were Krista Reib, Cody Meyer, Kailee Caughey, Jones, and Shannon McCall. The 12-16 placers were Rae Buffington, Holly Buffington, Lewis, Linscott, and Butch Show. In the 26-plus division, it was Treinen, Luann Meyer, Susie Caughey, Luann Meyer, and Lopez.

Sharvargus Noyes also won the 4-U Boot Race. The 5-7 leaders were Shae Green, Shelby Caughey, Levi Noyes, and Kolton Roofe. Taking the 8-11 age bracket were Krista Rieb, Tyler Show, Kayla Roofe, and Carter. The 12-16 placers were Holly Buffington, Billy Kramer, Kenny Ward, and Rae Buffington. John Dodson won the 26-plus and he was followed by Reed, and Lopez.

Sharvargus Noyes won the Key Hole Race. Shelby Caughey came in first and Levi Noyes second in the 5-7 bracket. The 8-11 placers were Krista Rieb, Tyler Jones, Kady Meyer, McCall, and Kodi Ward. Coming in respectively in the 12-16 division were Rae Buffington, Linscott, Lewis, Kenny Ward, and Butch Show. Taking the 26-plus bracket were Lopez, Luann Meyer, Art Meyer, and Teri Lawson.

The top placers in the mutton bustin competition were Jacob Gustamontes, Kolton Roofe, Tyler Show, Kody Ward, and Levi Noyes. Jackpot barrel winners were Lopez and Phillips. Taking the Relay Race were Levi Lewis-Butch Show, and Luann Meyer-Cody Meyer. Ribbon Race placers were the teams of Tim Show-Krista Rieb, and Justin Show-Dickie Macintosh. Rawhide placers were Justin Show-Kenny Ward and Dodson-Lopez.

Justin Show won the Calcutta Horse Race while Linscott came in second. Levi Lewis placed second in the Cross-Country race. The winner of that race was unknown.
