Sharks turn in good performances

Several Leopard Sharks have turned in some outstanding performances lately.

Many members of the team performed well at the Ouray Invitational which was held June 17 at the Ouray Hot Springs Municipal Pool.

Metals were presented for first-third and ribbons for fourth-sixth.

Jessica Millican, competing in the Girls 13-14 age group, placed second in the 50-yard back stroke with a time of 46.52 seconds. She took fifth in 50 breast in 46.96 and sixth in 100 individual medley in 1 minute, 36.74 seconds.

Earlier in the season, Millican set a new pool record at the Gunnison Meet in the 200 back, placing first with a time of 3:09.71.

Kelsey Green, Senior Girls, had a good swim at Ouray. She won all her events including 50 freestyle in 33.80, 50 butterfly in 37.84, and 100 I.M. in 1:23.68. Although high point awards were not presented at this meet, she scored the most points in the division. Also in that division, Tessa Haukeness touched the wall in second in 50 free with a clocking of 35.52. She placed third in 50 back in 42.44 and first in 50 breast in 41.36.

Haylie Cumpton, U-8 Girls, placed seventh in 25 back in 37.57 and 15th in 25 free in 49.37. Katie Millican, Girls 11-12, had a good day as she placed third in 50 fly in 39.87, 50 back second in 45.91, and third in 100 I.M. in 1:31.44.

Michael Neubert, 8-U Boys, finished third in 25 back in 34.30, fourth in 25 breast in 35.67, and ninth in 25 free in 35.75.

Jessie Garbesi, Girls 9-10, placed sixth in 50 fly in 59.75. She finished 12th in 50 breast and 13th in 100 I.M. Also in that age group, Shawndean Hutchison grabbed 16th in 50 back, 19th in 50 breast and 26th in 50 free. Hayley Andrews finished 17th in 50 back, 21st in 50 breast, and 24th in 50 free.

Alyse Neubert, Girls 11-12, placed 10th in 50 back, 14th in 50 free, and 15th in 50 breast. Also in that division, Laura Neubert placed 15th in 50 back and 17th in 50 breast.

The Cortez club is competing in Durango today and Sunday, June 24-25, in Durango. They visit Delta July 1-2, Grand Junction July 6-9, and Montrose July 14-16 to close the regular season. The Western Slope Championships are set for Montrose July 21-23, Seasonal Championships July 28-30 in Fort Collins, Division I-Junior Olympics Meet July 27-30 at the Air Force Academy, Silver State Aug. 4-6 in Lakewood, and Western Zone Championships in Fresno, Calif., Aug. 15-19.
