Second Jr. Rodeo draws many contestants

The second Southwest Showdown Junior Rodeo was held June 10 at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds. Youngsters from throughout the area competed in various events during the day.

In the Girls 2-3 Stickhorse Barrel Race, Brenna Leonard came in first, Whitney Finely second, Tegan Woosley third, and Shavargus Noyes fourth. Beau Garza took first, followed by Tyler Hageman, Jay Daves and Brian Romine.

The 2-3 Girls Stickhorse Flag Race, Leonard won followed by Finley, Woosley, and Noyes while on the boys’ side it was was Garza, Hageman, Romine, and Daves.

In the Boys 2-3 Stickhorse Race, it was Garza, Romine, Hageman, and Daves, while on the girls’ bracket it was Finley, Leonard, Woosley, and Noyes.

Garza took the Boys 2-3 High Point honor while Leonard grabbed the title for the girls.

Placing in the Girls 4-5 Stickhorse Race, it was Cydney McHenry, Kacey Schurr, Elisabeth Hoch, Baylee Lindsley, and Tabor Woosley and for the boys it was Taylor Lindsley, Justin White, Dillon Daves, Logan Hindmarsh, and Baylen Garza.

The Girls 4-5 Barrel Race had a full lineup. Tana Show captured first, followed by McHenry, Shelby Caughey, Woosley, Schurr, Lindsley, Hoch, Taylor Presnell, Ashley Romine, and Kourtney Partington. The boys’ placers were Shawn McKinley, Lindsley, Daves, Brett Horton, White, Garza, and Hindmarsh.

Show again captured the win in the Girls 4-5 Flag Race. She was followed by McHenry, Caughey, Schurr, Hoch, Lindsley, and Romine and on the boys’ side it was White, McKinley, Noyes, Hindmarsh, Daves, Horton, Garza, and Lindsley. White was the winner in the Boys 4-5 Pony Express event. He was followed by McKinley, Noyes, Lindsley, Hindmarsh, Daves, Garza, and Horton. The girls’ placers were Show, Caughey, Hoch, Lindsley, Presnell, Romine, and McHenry.

McHenry won the Girls 4-5 Poles. She was followed by Show, Caughey, Lindsley, Schurr, Hoch, and Romine. White won the Boys 4-5 Poles while Lindsley, Noyes, Garza, Hindmarsh, and Daves followed. Show won the Girls 4-5 Goat Tagging event with McHenry, Schurr, Woosley, Caughey, Hoch, Lindsley, Presnell, and Romine next. In the Boys 4-5 Goat Tagging, it was McKinley, White, Lindsley, Noyes, Daves, Hindmarsh, and Garza.

White was the Boys 4-5 High Point winner. Show was the girls’ bracket winner.

Tawnee Woosley was the winner in the Girls 6-8 Barrels. She was followed by Jordan McHenry, Kacia Show, Katygene Jackson, Krista Rieb, Bailey Schurr, Toni White, Jenna Suazo, Kaleigh Kimball, Kayla Jackson, Colleen Palmer, and Jessica Daves. In the Boys 6-8 Barrels, Austin Norris won and was followed by Tee Baker, Dustin Goodall, and Stephen Candelaria. Placing in Girls 6-8 Flag Race were Kimball, Show, Suazo, White, Katygene Jackson, Daves, and Rita Treinen. On the boys side, it was Goodall, Presnell, and Norris. Those placing in Boys 6-8 Pony Express were Goodall, Baker, and Candelaria and on the girls’ side they placers were Suazo, McHenry, Treinen, Katygene Jackson, White, Kimball, Rieb, Show, Schurr, and Woosley.

Capturing first in the 6-8 Girls Pole Bending was Baker. She was followed by Katygene Jackson, Show, Suazo, Kimball, McHenry, Treinen, Rieb, Woosley, White, Palmer, and Kayla Jackson. On the boys’ side it was Norris, Baker, Presnell, Goodall, and Candelaria. In Girls 6-8 Goat Tying, the placers were Woosley, Kimball, Baker, Suazo, Rieb, Katygene Jackson, Schurr, Show, McHenry, and White and on the boys’ side it was Baker, Goodall, and Presnell.

Suazo was the Girls 6-8 High Point winner. Goodall won for the boys.

A good group showed up for the Girls 9-12 Barrel racers. Jessica Norris captured the win. Coming in behind her respectively were Kayla Dennison, Jacqueline Candelaria, Heather McKinley, Joetta Lytle, Ashley Goodall, Katarina Deswood, Jessie Suazo, AnnaMarie Carter, and Kady Meyer. Not too many showed up for the boys. The finishers were Bradley Dennison, Roessel Jackson, and Cody Meyer. The Girls 9-12 Flag Race placers were Dennison, Goodall, McKinley, Suazo, Chelsea Rosas, Norris, and Lindsey Deswood. For the boys, it was Dennison, Jackson, Dalton Hindmarsh, and Meyer in that order.

The Girls 9-12 Pony Express finishers were Suazo, Lytle, McKinley, Dennison, Goodall, Rosas, Carter, and Candelaria and for the boys it was Meyer, Randy Wright, and Hindmarsh. The boys 9-12 Pole Bending placers were Dennison, Jackson, Meyer, Hindmarsh, and Wright. The Girls 9-12 Pole Bending finishers were Lytle, Norris, McKinley, Suazo, Dennison, Candelaria, Goodall, K. Deswood, Rosas, Carter, and L. Deswood.

In Girls 9-12 Goat Tying, the top placers were Lytle, Suazo, McKinley, Candelaria, Dennison, Norris, Goodall, Meyer, Carter, and K. Deswood. For the boys, it was Dennison, Hindmarsh, Meyer, Jackson and Wright.

Taking Girls 9-12 High Point was McKinley and Meyer won for the boys.

Another good group of girls participated in the 13-16 Barrels. Winning was Lindsey Maez. She was followed by Kayla Goode, Melissa Linscott, Marie Hoch, Kristyn Calhoon, Mary Hoch, Toni Show, Rae Buffington, Holly Buffington, and Haley Howell. The top boys were J.W. Goode, Ryan Buffington, and Bradly Apple.

Goode won the Boys 9-12 Flag Race. Coming in behind him were Buffington, Gifford Deswood, and Apple. For the girls, it was Goode, Linscott, Mary Hoch, R. Buffington, Calhoon, and Howell. Top placers in the Girls 13-16 Pony Express were Goode, Linscott, Mary Hoch, Eileen Royce, H. Buffington, Show, Marie Hoch, R. Buffington, Calhoon, and Howell and Goode, Buffington and Apple finished.

The Girls 13-16 Pole Bending placers were Goode, Linscott, Calhoon, Maez, Marie Hoch, Show, H. Buffington, Royce, Mary Hoch, and R. Buffington. Apple won for the boys and he was followed by Buffington and Deswood. Goode captured first place in Boys 13-16 Goat Tying and he was followed by Buffington, Apple, and Deswood. Placing for the girls were Goode, Maez, Calhoon, H. Buffington, Marie Hoch, Royce, Mary Hoch, R. Buffington, and Linscott.

Entries are due June 30, for the third Southwest Showdown Junior Rodeo event of the season which will be held all day on July 8, in the Montezuma County Fairgrounds Indoor Arena.
