Several area couples play in annual Guys and Dolls

The annual Guys and Dolls Golf Tournament drew several couples at Conquistador Golf Course.

The team of Jack Jacobsen and Sherill Burton captured low gross honors in the first flight. Art Martinez and Denise Johns took second gross. Tom Woosley and Evelyn Woosley won low net. There was a tie for second net between Bob Brown and Shannon Layton, and Rosco Hooper and Silvia Hooper.

Doug Lancaster and Pat Lanier took low gross in the second flight. Rob Kirks and Stacy Kirks took low net. Second gross and second net results were unavailable.

In the third flight, the duo of Bob McDaniel and Liz McDaniel won low gross. Paula Lively and Mike Balog tied Gary White and Ann White for second gross. Larry Kautz and Fay Kautz grabbed low net. Chris Saxon and Pat Osburn took second net.

June is always a busy time at Conquistador. The annual Doug Lancaster Memorial Scramble is set for this Saturday, June 10. The Safety Protection (safe pro) is slated for the 17th. The Fireman’s Golf Tournament is slated the 19th. The annual Cortez Junior Golf Classic is set the 22nd.

There has been a change on the schedule. The Cortez Men’s Golf Association’s Best Ball tourney, originially set for June 24-25, has been moved up a week to June 17-18, according to head pro Micah Rudosky. The entry fee is $60 per team with an entry deadline of June 16. The number of flights and prizes awarded will depend on the number of entries. For details, phone the Conquistador Pro Shop at 565-9208.

Also during June. The Navajo Trails Open is set for 15-18 at Hillcrest Golf Course in Durango. The richest tournament in the area, the $10,000-plus San Juan Open, will be held 19-25 at San Juan Country Club in Farmington.

The Coors Light Firecracker Golf Tournament will be held a week later than usual, July 8-9. It is usually held the first weekend of July to coincide with the Fourth of July. The Senior Championship will be held July 15-16. The National Long Drive Championship is set July 17 at Conquistador. Elsewhere, the Pinon Hills Classic (Farmington) is set for July 29-30.

Oilmen from throughout the area will be participating in the Ute Mountain Oil Classic Aug. 5. The Cortez Ladies Pro-Am will be held Aug. 7. The Mesa Verde Tee Cup and Pinto Bean close the month. In Farmington, the Totah Festival Tournament is slated Aug. 11 at Pinon Hills.

September, which used to not be a busy month, will be this year. The Dean Hanson Memorial is set the 9th. Nielsen’s Invitational is slated 16th. Cortez Elks will play 23-24th and Jobs Daughters 30th. The Cortez ladies will be heading to Fairfield-Pagosa for the Ladies Pro-Am there the 11th. The final tournament in the area is the Four Corners Stroke Play Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at Dalton Ranch.

The CMGA Club Championship still does not have a final date, according to the schedule. The Mancos Days Golf Tournament also has not been finalized. Several other organizations who usually sponsor tournaments have not finalized their plans as well. Open dates are filling up fast, according to golf course personnel.
