Several boys and girls place at first SW Showdown Jr. Rodeo

The first Southwest Showdown Junior Rodeo of the season was held May 27 at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds Indoor Arena.

Area youth between the ages of 2-17 competed in various events.

The Girls 2-3 Stickhorse Barrel Race saw Whitney Finley take first with Tegan Woosley second, Brenna Leonard third and Shavargus Noyes fourth. Boys 2-3 placers were Beau Garza, Jay Daves, and Brian Romine.

The Girls 2-3 Stickhorse Flag Race saw Finley take first, Leonard was second, Woosley third, and Noyes fourth. Tyler Hageman won for the boys with Garza second, Romine third, and Daves fourth.

Capturing honors in the Boys 2-3 Stickhorse Race were Garza, Hageman, Daves, and Romine while Leonard, Finley, Woosley and Noyes finished in that order for the girls.

Garza was the high-point boy and Finley high-point girl.

Several boys and girls competed in the 4-5 division.

Placing in the 4-5 Girls Stickhorse Race were Cydney McHenry first, Tabor Woosley second, Baylee Lindsley third, Kacey Schurr fourth, Ashley Romine fifth, and Elisabeth Hoch sixth. Top finishers for the boys were Justin White, Logan Hindmarsh, Levi Noyes, Taylor Lindsley, Dillon Daves, and Baylen Garza.

The Girls 4-5 Barrel Race placers were McHenry, Tana Show, Schurr, Shelby Caughey, Lindsley, Taylor Presnell, Romine, and Hoch. In the boys’ side, White won, followed by Lindsley, Noyes, Garza, Daves, and Hindmarsh.

In the 4-5 Boys Flag Race saw Noyes win with White, Hindmarsh, Garza, Daves, and Lindsley following. On the girls’ side, Show won, McHenry was second with Caughey third, Schurr fourth, Romine fifth, and Lindsley sixth.

Top finishers in the Boys 4-5 Pony Express were Noyes, White, Hindmarsh, Daves, Lindsley, and Garza while the top girls were Show, Caughey, Lindsley, Hoch, McHenry, and Romine.

Finishing in the Girls 4-5 Poles were McHenry, Caughey, Show, Schurr, Romine, Hoch, and Lindsley while Daves, White, Garza, Hindmarsh, Lindsley, and Noyes placed for the boys.

Boys 4-5 Goat Tagging saw White win, followed by Noyes, Lindsley, Daves, Hindmarsh, and Garza. Placers for the girls were McHenry, Caughey, Show, Hoch, Lindsley, Schurr, Presnell, and Romine.

White captured high-point in that age group for the boys while McHenry and Show tied for the girls.

There were many contestants in the 6-8 division.

In the 6-8 Girls Barrels, Tawnee Woosley won while Jana Baker took second, Kayleigh Kimball third, Jordan McHenry fourth, Jenna Suazo fifth, Katygene Jackson sixth, Kacia Show seventh, Krista Robb eighth, Bailey Schurr ninth, and Rita Treinen 10th. Placing for the boys were Austin Norris, Tee Baker, and Garrett Presnell.

The Girls 6-8 Flag Race saw Baker win with Suazo second, Show third, Woosley fourth, Treinen fifth, Keeley Bemenderfer-Wren sixth, McHenry seventh, White eighth, Schurr ninth, and Jackson 10th. For the boys it was Goodall, Presnell, and Norris, respectively.

In the Girls 6-8 Pony Express Race it was Suazo, Jackson, McHenry, Woosley, Krista Rieb, Toni White, Treinen, Schurr, Shae Green, and Show. For the boys it was Baker, Norris, and Presnell.

Baker won the Boys 6-8 Pole Bending while Presnell, Goodall and Norris. In the Girls 6-8 Pole Bending contest it was Baker, Jackson, Suazo, Kimball, Benenderfer-Wren, Schurr, Show, Treinen, Woosley, and Rieb.

Woosley won the 6-8 Girls Goat Tying with Bemenderfer-Wren, McHenry, Baker, White, Jackson, Rieb, Schurr, Suazo, and Jackson. For the boys it was Goodall, Norris, and Presnell.

Capturing high-point for the boys was Norris while Baker and Woosley tied for the girls.

It was an interesting day for 9-12 year olds at the rodeo.

In the Girls 9-12 Barrels, Joetta Lytle took first while Jessie Suazo came in second, Jessica Norris third, Kayla Dennison fourth, Kararina Deswood fifth, AnnaMarie Carter sixth, and Kady Meyer seventh. Placing for the boys it was Bradley Dennison, Roessel Jackson, and Cody Meyer.

Dennison won the Boys 9-12 Flag Race while Dalton Hindmarsh came in second and Jackson third. For the girls it was Dennison, Suazo, Chesea Rosas, Meyer, Ashley Goodall, Norris, and Carter.

The Girls 9-12 Pony Express saw Suazo win with Lytle taking second, Carter third, Rosas fourth, Norris fifth and Meyer sixth. Placing for the boys were Jackson, Hindmarsh, Meyer, and Dennison, respectively.

Top placers in the Boys 9-12 Pole Bending, Jackson won with Hindmarsh second, Meyer third and Dennison fourth. For the girls it was Lytle, Suazo, Norris, Dennison, Goodall, Carter, Rosas, Lindsey Deswood, and Meyer.

Capturing honors in Girls 9-12 Goat Tying were Suazo, Lytle, Goodall, Katarina Deswood, Norris, and Meyer and placing for the boys were Dennison, Meyer, Hindmarsh, and Jackson.

Suazo won high-point honors for the girls while Dennison and Jackson tied for the boys.

A good group turned out for the older kids.

In the Girls 13-17 Barrels, Lindsey Maez took first place while Aspen Camp grabbed second, Kayla Goode third, Marie Hoch fourth, Rae Buffington fifth, Kristyn Calhoon sixth, Melissa Linscott seventh, Erica Secrist eighth, Mary Hoch ninth, and Holly Buffington 10th. In the boys’ bracket it was JW Goode, Butch Show, Gifford Deswood, and Bradley Apple.

The Boys 13-17 Flag Race saw JW Goode take first, Ryan Buffington second, Show third, Deswood fourth, and Apple fifth. For the girls it was Maez, Goode, Linscott, Rae Buffington, Calhoon, Mary Hoch, and Holly Buffington.

Grabbing top honors in the Girls 13-17 Pony Express were Goode, Linscott, Camp, Mary Hoch, Maez, Calhoon, Rae Buffington, Marie Hoch, and Holly Buffington. Placing for the boys were Goode, Buffington, Show, Apple, and Deswood.

In Boys 13-17 Pole Bending, Goode won while Buffington came in second, Show third, Apple fourth and Deswood fifth. On the girls’ side it was Goode, Maez, Erica Secrist, Linscott, Rae Buffington, Calhoon, Camp, Marie Hoch, and Mary Hoch.

Taking honors in the 13-17 Boys Goat Tying were Goode, Apple, Buffington, Show, and Deswood while placing for the girls were Goode, Calhoon, Maez, Marie Hoch, Mary Hoch, Linscott, and Rae Buffington.

It was Goode and Goode winning high point honors in that age group.

The second Southwest Showdown Junior Rodeo will be held this Saturday, June 10, at the fairgrounds.
