May 25, 2000 BY JIM THOMAS Journal Sports Editor Conquistador Pro Micah Rudosky said the Boys and Girls Junior Golf Program will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 27. The fee is $35 per child. Registration is now being taken. For details, contact Rudosky at 565-9208. Two area residents recently made aces at the municipal course. David Whatcott of Dolores made his hole-in-one on hole no. 16, par 201-yards. He used a 6-iron. Chris Whatcott witnessed. Shea Sena, 15, of Cortez made his hole-in-one on no. 17, 170-yard, par 3. He used a 5-iron. Watching him was Craig Liukko. June is always a busy time at Conquistador. Guys and Dolls will held the first weekend, 3-4 at Conquistador. The Cortez ladies will travel to Durango to compete in the Dalton Ranch Pro-Lady on the 5th. This event is usually held towards the end of the season in September. The Doug Lancaster Memorial is set for the 10th. The Safety Protection (safe pro) is slated for the 17th. The Fireman’s Golf Tournament is slated the 19th. The annual Cortez Junior Golf Classic is set the 22nd. The CMGA Best Ball is set for 24-25th of the month. Also during June. The Navajo Trails Open is set for 15-18. The richest tournament in the area, the $10,000-plus San Juan Open, will be held 19-25 at San Juan Country Club. The Coors Light Firecracker Golf Tournament will be held a week later than usual, July 8-9. It is usually held the first weekend of July to coincide with the Fourth of July. The Senior Championship will be held July 15-16. The National Long Drive Championship is set July 17 at Conquistador. Elsewhere, the Pinon Hills Classic (Farmington) is set for July 29-30. |
