Dolores wins Shiprock track meet title

SHIPROCK, N.M. — Dolores boys and girls track and field teams put the San Juan League on notice.

The Bears dominated a 20-team field at the annual Chieftain Invitational Track and Field Meet on Saturday, April 8, at SHS Stadium. Combined scores for boys and girls were tallied and when the last race was over and dust had settled, Dolores won with 191 points, Bayfield came in second with 180.5, followed by Mancos 165, Shiprock 158, Ganado, Ariz., 113, and Pagosa Springs 54.

Jennifer Trevillian of DHS was chosen the Oustanding Female Athlete at the meet. The sophomore won the high jump with a leap of 4-feet, 11 1/2 inches. She blazed to victory in the 100-meter dash with a clocking of 12.84 seconds. She finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 13-5. She also won the 200 in 27.4.

The Dolores 4X800 relay team captured third in 11 minutes, 03.31 seconds. The 4X100 came in third in 54.65.

Dolores Daisy Ragland brought home a first in the long jump with a leap of 15-5 1/2. She placed third in the 100 in 13.29. and finished fifth in the 200 in 28.8. Kayla Erickson took sixth in the shot put with a heave of 28-3/4. Tracy Everett came in second in the 1600 run in 5:54.96. Joni Everett took fourth in the 400 in 1:05.92 and she placed fourth in the 800 in 2:32.48. Tegan Brown won the 3200 in 13:20.99 while Tracy Everett placed second in 13:21.30.

On the boys’ side of the ledger, Dolores picked up some points when Justin Fecteau came in fifth in the shot with a toss of 38-7. Cody Beaver grabbed second in the 110 hurdles in 15.72 and Casey Garvin took sixth in 18.21. Garret Nelson came in fourth in the 100 in 11.51 and Levi Frye fifth in 11.58. Beaver also placed second in the 300 hurdles in 44.43 and Frye followed in third in 45.31. Nelson took third in the 200 in 23.46 while Frye was sixth in 24.43.

Brian Rantz placed sixth in the 1600 in 4:56.09. He also took sixth in the 800 in 2:15.25 while Chris Burkholz followed in 2:15.49.

The 4X100 relay team came in second in 47.66. The 4X400 relay team placed eighth in 4:01.24.

The Blue Jays also had a very good meet.

Gary Baker came in second in the high jump as a went over the bar in 6-0. Bill Baker came in third at 5-8. Ray Thomas took second in triple jump with a hop, skip, and jump of 36-11 and Gary Baker placed fifth at 35-3. Thomas won the long jump with a leap of 18-7 and Bill Baker placed sixth at 17-2. Phillip Wilson crossed the tape in second in the 100 dash in 11.12.

The Mancos 4X800 relay squad place seventh in 9:29.06. The Blue Jays won the 4X100 in 46.53.

Thomas placed fourth in the 300 hurdles in 45.41. Jeremiah Muniz placed eighth in the 200 in 24.71. Jordan Davis finished sixth in the 3200 in 11:05.21.

The Blue Jays girls also picked up some points.

Mancos finished seventh in the 4X800 in 12:47.01. The Jays took second in the 4X100 in 54.32. The 4X400 placed seventh in 4:57.40.

Erica Russell won the shot put with a heave of 35-2 1/2 and Rachel Russell placed fourth with a toss of 29-5 1/2. Jori Yeomans finished sixth in the 1600 in 6:02.97. Rene Davis grabbed third in the 300 hurdles in 54.50.

DCHS, with its small team, also was at the meet. Krystal Neely came in eighth in the 400 with a time of 1:08.03. Chess Johnson finished third in the high jump with a leap of 5-11. The Bulldog boys 4X400 relay team came in fourth in 3:55.02. The DCHS girls 4X800 took third in 11:04.88.

DCHS, DHS, and MHS will all compete in the big Kirtland-Central Invitational in Kirtland this Saturday, April 15.
