Tri-City slates referee clinic for soccer season

February 2, 2002

Tri-City Soccer Association is planning a clinic to certify referees in February in the Cortez Police Department conference room.

It will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, and continued on Friday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 16, the clinic begins at 8 a.m. The clinic is free to all those interested in becoming soccer officials. For those wishing to become certified, the state league charges $35 for the license. Current certified officials may attend this clinic for the required recertification hours. For details, phone Barb Cullington at 565-7106.

Tri-City hires referees throughout the fall and winter. In addition, for those who contract with Tri-City, the $35 will be reimbursed. Tr-City would like to encourage parents of younger age group players to attend. The clinic will help parents enjoy the game of soccer even more. Coaches of all ages should also try to attend this clinic. Teens can earn extra money throughout high school and college as a certified referee and they can improve their own game by thoroughly understanding the rules.
