Junior Rodeo awards handed out

The 1999 Southwest Showdown Junior Rodeo Series is history. However, end-of-season awards were only recently handed out.

Whitney Finley finished overall in first place in the Girls 2-3 age bracket. Ashley Romine and Brenna Leonard followed. Levi Noyes won the Boys 2-3 division. Dillon Daves took second followed by Logan Hindmarsh, Cody Meier, William Schuster, Cordell Chee, and Matthew Daniel, respectively. The girls’ buckle was sponsored by Rick’s Towing and Truck Repair and boys’ buckle by Liquid Assets.

The 4-5 Girls’ winner overall winner was Cydney McHenry. Following her in the standings were Tana Show, Shelby Caughey, Toni White, Kacey Schurr, Jessica Daves, Kayla Jackson, Elisabeth Hoch, Megan Gardner, and Taylor Presnell. The 4-5 Boys’ winner was Tee Baker. Garrett Taylor took second while Garrett Presnell, Justin White, Stephen Candelaria, Lane LaRue, and Joshua Chavez followed. The saddle for the girls was sponsored by Corey Perkins and for the boys by Johnny Donaldson, Rick Randolph, and T&L Livestock.

The 6-8 Girls’ division was won by Jordan McHenry. She was followed by Jana Baker, Jessica Norris, Tawnee Woosley, Kacia Show, Dannika Taylor, Kayleigh Kimball, Kady Meyer, Katygene Jackson, and Bailey Schurr. The 6-8 Boys’ winner was Dustin Goodall. Following him were Landon Meier and Austin Norris, Anthony Chavez, and Peter Schmalz. The girls’ saddle sponsors were JH Daves Farms, and Trudeau Custom Application. The boys’ saddle sponsor was Big O Tires.

Joetta Lytle won the 9-12 Girls’ age group. Alexis Dewhurst, Kayla Dennison, Amber Moore, Ashley Montgomery, Rae Buffington and Tiarah Shumway, Amanda Schuster, Ashley Goodall, Jacqueline Candelaria and Kailee Caughey, and Chelsi Hall were next. The 9-12 Boys’ titleist was Bradley Dennison. Dalton Hindmarsh, Roessel Jackson, Cody Meyer, and Caleb Valdez finished second through fifth. The girls’s saddle sponsor was Gordy’s Family Restaurant and the boys’ saddle by Ute Mountain Casino.

The 13-16 Girls’ champion was Lindsey Maez. Placing second through eighth were Brendee Bauer, Elizabeth Hunter, Mary Hoch, Marie Hoch, Eileen Royce, Holly Buffington, and Kristyn Calhoon. Ryan Buffington won the 13-16 Boys’ bracket. Bradly Apple and Gifford Deswood tied for second. Ruben Duran and Butch Show were next. The girls’s saddle was sponsored by Mancos Redi-Mix and the boys’ saddle by The Gardner Family.

Most Improved awards were also handed out. Dalton Hindmarsh for boys barrels and Kady Schurr for girls barrels. Bradly Apple took the honor for boys flag race and Jessica Daves for girls flag race. Butch Show won for boys pony express and Kady Meyer for girls pony express. Landon Meier won for boys poles and Dannika Taylor for girls poles. Garrett Presnell took honors for boys goats and Tawnee Woosley for girls goats. Most Improved Overall Cowboy honor went to Gifford Deswood. Most Improved Overall Cowgirl went to Toni Jo White.
