Flower business taking root

For the Juniper Canyon Ranch and its owner Nancy Dericks, business is blooming.

The ranch, located on County Road 30 off of Summit Ridge in Dolores, specializes in growing and selling day lilies, irises, perennials as well as some cut flowers.

"I have about 85 hybrid varieties of day lilies," said Dericks.

Dericks explained that each flower on a day lily stock blooms for one day.

Because the flowers may not be in bloom when a customer comes to look, the ranch uses a photo catalog system — arranged by color — so that people can pick their purchases, Dericks said.

Dericks said that she works on an individual basis, by appointment only.

"I can work with a customer helping to arrange, plan, develop and landscape their garden," she said.

Derricks said that customers are also welcome to wait at the ranch while she digs their order or they can place an order and pick it up a week later.

Delivery service is also available within the Four Corners area, but a minimum purchase must be made.
