Forty-seven float entries wended their way through downtown Cortez after dark Saturday in the 10th annual Parade of Lights.

The Best Western Turquoise Inn took first place in the commercial category among the entries for a float with a giant snowman. Second was Maintenance Professional with an angel float, and third went to Trucks & More.

Winning in the non-profit category were Girl Scout Troops Nos. 52 and 2921, with a cabin, Santa and many helpers. Second place was awarded to San Juan Basin Technical School and third to the Ute Mountain High School Rodeo Team.

In the third category, for other types of groups and individuals, the CMS Spirit Club took first place with its cheerleaders displaying holiday spirit. Second place went to the Duran family and third to Nathan Brumley.

THE WINNING FLOAT in the commercial category in the Parade of Lights makes its way down Main Street Saturday evening. The float was by Best Western Turquoise Inn.

The Parade of Lights was launched in 1990 by the Cortez Area Board of Realtors, which continues to sponsor it. Charles Searle, chairman of Citizens State Bank, was chosen parade marshal for his services and contributions to the association. Linda Davies, manager of Major Mortgage, drove Searle.
