BIA OFFICER DALE AMERICAN
HORSE (center), of the Oglalla Sioux tribe, stands with his wife
Michela and Towaoc Police Chief Dusty Whiting after being
recognized for bravery beyond the call of duty during an
incident in which he saved a New Mexican man’s life. In
February, American Horse risked his own life to pull the man
from a burning car threatening to explode after a high-speed
chase that ended in a violent crash on Highway 160. The award
was presented to American Horse, a law-enforcement officer for
the Ute Mountain tribe, at a ceremony marking the opening of the
Chief Ignacio Detention Center in Towaoc last month. |
