As of Thursday, customers are able to save as much as half off on their groceries by purchasing them in advance over the Internet, Jim Berhost, manager of the Cortez City Market, announced Tuesday.

"All you have to do is sign up on the Internet through priceline.com and if you use your credit card then you can go in and bid on groceries — and you can actually save up to half off," Berhost said.

After registering through priceline.com, customers then log on to either www.kingsoopers.com or www.citymarket.com, where they can choose from hundreds of items.

Shoppers can name their own prices for the items they want and then find out in 60 seconds whether or not their price has been accepted.

Prices are locked in after the customer pre-pays with their credit card.

"You then come to the store with a list of the items you purchased, fill your order and then swipe the little card that they give you (at the checkout counter) and you’re done," said Berhost.

Berhost said that the cashiers at the Cortez City Market should be ready to go live with the online shopping promotion this weekend.

According to a news release, the service is available at City Market and King Soopers grocery stores throughout Colorado.
