August 31, 2000 Mesa Verde National Park will be operating on its regular autumn schedule starting Tuesday, Sept. 5. All tours and services on Chapin Mesa will be open and available. For the autumn season, the Far View Visitor Center will continue to be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for information and for purchasing tickets for the Cliff Palace and Balcony House tours. Each person wishing to tour these sites must have a ticket, available only at the visitor center and costing $1.75 per person per tour. Cliff Palace tours will be offered every half-hour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Balcony House tours will be offered every hour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cliff Palace will be open through Nov. 4, Balcony House through Oct. 14. The Chapin Mesa Archaeological Museum will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Spruce Tree House, the park’s third-largest and best-preserved cliff dwellings, will be open daily on a self-guided basis from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Morefield Campground will remain open for camping through the night of Oct. 21. The Far View Lodge will remain open through the night of Oct. 28. "Despite what some people may have heard, Mesa Verde National Park is open and offering the full complement of fall programming," said Superintendent Larry Wiese in a press release. "Autumn is a wonderful time to visit the park. We encourage everyone to come see the magical rebirth of the natural ecosystem after the summer’s wildfire."
