August 8, 2000

SHAYLIE BOYD poses with her grand-champion goat, as well as Dalton Hindmarsh and Marcus Colbert of Mancos Valley Bank, which bought the goat.

The Montezuma County Fair livestock sale brought in a whopping $142,515.75 this year. That’s a $7,200 jump from last year’s $135,261.55 of 4-H and FFA livestock projects which included rabbits, goats, poultry, steers, hogs, and lambs.

The results of the grand- and reserve-champion sales follow below. A complete list of all livestock sales, not available at press time, will be included in a special fair supplement to be published later. The special publication will also include the results of judging for 4-H, FFA and open-class competitions.

"This is a way for us to give it back to the community," said Pat DeGagne, owner of Mancos Redi-Mix. She said that the smaller animals they purchased are usually returned to the children, but the beef and other meat will be used primarily for the company barbecue.
