June 15, 2000 Journal Staff Report Three incumbents were re-elected to the Southwest Health System board Tuesday evening at the board’s annual meeting, each for three-year terms. Fifty-six community members showed up to vote for candidates and hear SHS’s annual report on Southwest Memorial Hospital, which the group manages under a lease agreement with the Montezuma County Hospital District. Roy Henneman received 45 votes, Walt Henes attracted 44 votes and Susan Hatter garnered 38 votes to win seats on the nine-member board. Challenger Stephanie Whatcott lost, but had a respectable showing, bringing in 29 votes. At the board meeting officers were also elected by the board, with John Greenemeier chosen as chairman, Laura Brown as vice chairperson and Susan Hatter as secretary treasurer. All who attended the meeting were allowed to cast votes, if they were a resident or taxpayer of the county. In order to increase lagging voter participation, the SHS board will consider changing its bylaws so that voting can be held all day, and to include absentee ballots. |
