June 3, 2000 By Matt Gleckman Law enforcement officials around the Four Corners have had no luck finding a Louisiana man accused of abducting his own 15-month-old daughter at the Mancos High School graduation last month, propelling the search nationwide. Det. Kalvin Boggs of the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that there have been no new developments in the case. "We have notified law enforcement agencies across the country and have expanded the search nationwide," Boggs said. Jodie Grimes, the abducted girl’s grandmother, said Friday that the family was in the process of getting the television show America’s Most Wanted to report on the kidnapping. According to a report filed by the sheriff’s office, John B. Coleman, 33 of New Orleans, La., allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend, 26-year-old Jennifer Davis, while Davis was leaving the Mancos Performance Center during the high school graduation ceremonies. Davis said that she was walking down the steps of the performance center with her daughter, Aniston Coleman, when she was struck in the middle of her back and knocked to the ground. Davis said that when she got up she saw Coleman running with Aniston toward an alley on the north side of the building. Coleman then fled with Aniston in a dark sport-utility vehicle suspected by police to be a green 1993 Nissan Pathfinder with Louisiana license plate "IFK 553." The report said that Davis fled from Louisiana about a week prior to the graduation ceremony to escape abuse that she was allegedly receiving from Coleman. Davis told police that Coleman has military training and experience surviving in the wilderness and she expects that Coleman is hiding out in the backcountry somewhere. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office at 565-8444. |
