June 1, 2000 By Matt Gleckman Journal Staff Writer Cortez City Attorney Cliff Fossum, who was charged earlier this year with a class 5 felony for allegedly using cocaine, had his case bound over to District Court in Cortez on Tuesday. Fossum did not appear in Montezuma County Court for his dispositional hearing on Tuesday, leaving his defense attorney, George Buck, and Special Prosecutor Todd Norvell, a deputy district attorney from Durango, to work out an arraignment date. Fossum’s arraignment has been set for June 15. At that time, Fossum will be required to enter a plea, although the arraignment could be postponed if other legal issues arise. If convicted of the felony drug charge that he currently faces, Fossum could be sentenced to up to three years in prison. The charges against Fossum date back to a March 6 driving accident when his vehicle ran off the side of U.S. Highway 160 on Mancos Hill. Since charges were filed, Fossum has stopped representing his public clients, including the City of Cortez. |
