Journal Staff Report

A new reporter and a college intern have joined the Cortez Journal staff, Managing Editor Joshua Moore announced Wednesday.

Janelle Holden has joined the Journal as a new reporter who will cover public lands issues, regional topics and agriculture.

Holden is originally from Valier, Mont. She comes to Cortez from Hillsdale, Mich., where she graduated from Hillsdale College with a bachelor’s degree in English and later taught journalism.

Holden, who worked for the Alberta Report in Alberta, Canada, and on Capitol Hill for Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho, has special interest and expertise in public lands, ranching and agriculture issues.

Jenn Ooton joins the Journal staff as a college intern through the Colorado Press Association’s summer internship program and will perform general assignment reporting as well as layout and design duties.

Ooton is a journalism major at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and graduated from high school in Lamar, Colo. She has worked at the USC Today and the Lamar Daily News, and her career goals include writing for a national magazine, preferably on a free-lance basis that would enable her to "live in Colorado forever."
