Feb. 24, 2000 Journal Staff Report A panel of informed stakeholders will address issues surrounding Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbells proposed legislation creating a 160,000-acre National Conservation Area in western Montezuma County during a forum next Tuesday, the San Juan Basin Farm Bureau announced this week. Representatives of Campbell and Congressman Scott McInnis will be on the panel, according to Farm Bureau spokeswoman Phyllis Snyder, along with officials from the county commission, Shell CO2 and the Bureau of Land Management, and a spokesperson for the Montezuma County Landowners Association, which adamantly opposes the legislation. Questions seeking specific information will be taken from the audience, Snyder said, but long-winded speeches will be discouraged. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Montezuma County Annex (Chestnut Street and Montezuma Avenue in Cortez) and end around 10 p.m. Participants will be sustained with coffee and snacks. |
