Police seek alleged molester

Feb. 10, 2000

The San Miguel County Sheriff’s office is seeking the public’s help in locating a 50-year-old man from Norwood who is accused of drugging and molesting a minor.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the apprehension of Samuel Winfrey Conley, charged with sexual assault on a child, dispensing marijuana to a person under 15 and contributing to the delinquency of a minor —in addition to a new charge of violating the conditions of his bond after Conley failed to appear in court last week.

The charges stem from acts allegedly committed by Conley last fall, according to San Miguel Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Laird. A new bond of $500,000 was set when Conley didn’t show up for his court date, Laird said.

Conley was recently spotted somewhere in Arizona and is believed to have fled to avoid prosecution, Laird said. He has been traveling in a cream-colored older Chevy pickup with stock racks, according to the reward poster.

People with information should call the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office at 970-728-3081 or their local law enforcement agency.
