Joshua Moore has been named managing editor of the Cortez Journal, General Manager Suzy Meyer announced Friday.

Moore, 28, will run the Journal’s newsroom, oversee the local and national content of the paper, edit most news stories and supervise the Journal’s staff of writers, page designers, and photographers.

Moore joined the staff of The Durango Herald as a police and court reporter in May 1998 and quickly became the Herald’s lead reporter covering the manhunt for the men accused of killing Cortez Police officer Dale Claxton. Moore has also broken several high-profile court cases in the Herald and served as a general assignment reporter. He has also substituted for the Herald city editor.

A 1993 graduate of Wesleyan University with a degree in English, Moore operated a freelance travel and news writing business in Durango before joining the Herald.

Moore takes over day-to-day management of the newsroom from Meyer, who became the Journal’s general manager in April. She remains as editor.
