Jan. 26, 2002 John Fielder, nationally acclaimed nature photographer, publisher, teacher and preservationist, will conduct a slide presentation and book-signing as part of the Friends of Crow Canyon Distinguished Lecture Subscription Series. The lecture will take place at 6:30 p.m., March 8, at the center’s Gates Building. Fielder, who has created 30 exhibit-format books and guidebooks, is well-known for "Photographing the Landscape: The Art of Seeing", "A Colorado Winter" and his best-selling book, "Colorado 1870 - 2000," which traces the footsteps of early West photographer William Henry Jackson’s trek though Colorado’s landscape. Fielder’s sideshow is a visual presentation of his "then and now" photo pairs, which show the changes in Colorado’s landscape over the past 130 years. Rural and urban settings alike show how growth has affected the state’s natural resources. During the year of re-photographing Jackson’s scenes, Fielder gathered many engaging stories about the life and times of early Colorado residents, along with his humorous stories of the challenges he faced standing in Jackson’s shoes. Copies of his latest publication "Colorado 1870-2000 Revisited: The History Behind the Images," will be for sale during the reception, and Fielder will be available for a book signing. The reception includes drinks and appetizers. A limited number of $25 non subscription tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve, phone 565-8975, ext. 136. Tickets are not available at the door. Proceeds benefit Crow Canyon youth scholarship funds, which enable local students to attend Crow Canyon programs. |
