'Frugal Bugle' debuts in four-county area

November 15, 2001

The Durango Herald and The Cortez Journal have launched a free newspaper for bargain shoppers.

Appearing yesterday for the first time, the weekly Frugal Bugle touts "light news, heavy bargains." The 12,000 circulation paper is being distributed through newsstands in Montezuma, Dolores, La Plata and San Juan counties.

The Bugle, published Wednesdays, contains soft news stories, features, and classified and display advertising from the Herald, Journal, Mancos Times and Dolores Star. Advertisers in those publications will be able to penetrate the four-county market with one purchase.

Most of the stories in the Bugle will be provided by the Associated Press wire. Feature and how-to stories will appear each week. The newspaper will also feature a police blotter, culled from humorous items in the Herald’s and Journal’s blotters, comics, and horoscopes.

For more information, call Frugal Bugle Editor Karla Sluis at 375-4561 or Marketing/ Promotions Director Sharon Hermes at 375-4511.
