A Dove Creek woman was seriously injured in a two-car crash Friday morning on U.S. Highway 666 north of Cortez in Dolores County.

Fifty-three-year-old Phyllis Brogan was airlifted from the scene to San Juan Regional Hospital in Farmington, N.M., where she was treated for injuries sustained in the wreck.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, Brogan was westbound in a Hyundai passenger car driven by Brandon Siler, 26, of Dove Creek, when they attempted to pass the vehicle in front of them.

However, the lead vehicle, driven by Larry Laing of California, was in the process of turning left across the highway as Siler attempted to pass.

The vehicles bounced off each other, sending Siler and Brogan’s car spinning off the left side of the roadway.

Laing’s Dodge truck also rotated from the impact and came to a stop in the eastbound lane.

The nature of Brogan’s injuries was unavailable as of press time Friday, but she was reported in good condition, according to a spokesperson at San Juan Regional.

Siler reported minor injuries to the patrol but did not require transport to the hospital.

Neither Laing nor his passenger, 88-year-old Gary Edwardsen, was wounded in the crash.

Siler was cited for careless driving causing injury, according to the accident report.
