Isgar to run to retain Senate seat in District 6

Oct 20, 2001

State Sen. Jim Isgar (D-Hesperus) is officially announcing his candidacy for the Senate in District 6 for November 2002.

Isgar was to announce his candidacy Friday in Montrose and Durango.

District 6 includes Montezuma, Dolores, La Plata, San Juan, Archuleta, San Miguel, Ouray and Montrose counties, as well as a small part of Delta County.

Isgar, a farmer and rancher from Hesperus, was appointed this year to finish out the term of Sen. Jim Dyer after Dyer left to take a seat on Colorado’s Public Utilities Commission.

Isgar serves on the Senate Agricultural Committee, the State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee, and the Transportation Committee, and is chair of the Natural Resources and Energy Committee.

He is also on the board of the Animas-La Plata Water Conservancy District and is president of the La Plata Conservancy District board and of H.H. Ditch Company’s board of directors.

He is a member of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants.

In a press release, Isgar said he believes important issues in District 6 include promoting economic development, protecting the rural lifestyle, managing growth, retaining private-property rights, and strenghtening the rural-health-care system.
