Oct 20, 2001 Greeley Gas Company, which provides service to Cortez as well as Mancos and Durango, has made a filing with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission requesting a 46.75 percent decrease in its natural-gas commodity rates for customers in the Southwest service areea. If approved, the new rates will become effective Nov. 1. The decrease comes about as increased storage capacity, additional production, and milder weather have positively affected natural-gas market prices. "This points to welcome relief from last year’s record-high gas prices for our customers," stated Gary Schlessman, president of Greeley Gas Co., in a press release. "The 2000-2001 heating season was a painful experience for all of us." Greeley Gas does not make a profit on the price fluctuations of natural gas, he said. Greeley officials plan to avoid unforeseen price hikes in the natural-gas market this heating season by purchasing 50 percent of their projected winter-heating-season supply at a fixed rate. By doing so, Greeley can ensure that rates will be more stable. Customers who need information or help regarding their account should call 1-888-442-1313 or HEAT-HELP at 1-866-432-8435. Greeley serves approximately 94,000 customers in 60 communities throughout Colorado. |
