She will be here from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24. She will also make an appearance in Durango from 7:30-9 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Animas Museum. Slides will be shown. The book features 293 Colorado men, women, and teen-agers from all parts of the state and 111 out-of-state hunters. Colorado’s Biggest Bucks and Bulls includes 800 photographs and 275 true stories about six world’s records and 13 state record big game (all from Colorado). The book pinpoints the exact locations of Colorado’s biggest mule deer, whitetail deer, elk, Shiras moose, bighorn sheep, desert bighorn sheep, Rocky Mountain goats, pronghorn antelope, cougar, and black bear taken by Colorado hunters using modern firearms, bow and arrow, and muzzleoader firearms from 1850 to present. The 400-page hardcover book is packed with big game and historical photographs featuring the vastness and beauty of Colorado. Other chapters include details about how to recognize big game trophy animals in the field, how to care for trophies in the field, and places to go in Colorado that may be of special interest to big game hunters. This edition of the book contains 56 never-before-published historical photographs including one of President Theodore Roosevelt in Glenwood Springs. A number of local hunters are mentioned in the book. Those who have their names in the book from Cortez include Jay N. Cruzan, Olen J. Hicks, Howard’s Sporting Goods Store, Rick Kirks, Lloyd Pyle, Travis Shippey, and Michael R. Treinen. Several Dolores residents are mentioned including Terry Amrine, Tom Beck (Colorado Division of Wildlife), Tom Broderick, Joe W. Brummer, Andrea Holley, Bryon D. Long, and Renay Neely. Some Mancos residents also got their name in the book including Jerry L. DeFrenchi, Mary Ann Ott, and Woody Ott. Durango has Gary Brown of Discount Liquors, Richard Ellis of Gardenswartz Sporting Goods, Pennington Camera Co., Robert McDaniel, Animas Museum, and Alan Lee and Bud Vandenberg. The foundation funds up to $50,000 per year for purchase of land to benefit all types of wildlife, finances Watchable Wildlife publications, funds environmental research throughout the state, finances environmental education programs for children and adults, as well as funding some other conservation projects. Reneau was raised in Colorado Springs. She is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley with a major in elementary education and speech communication. She recently moved to Montana with her husband and three children. The book sells for $32.95 and is available at most Colorado sporting goods stores, and bookstores. |
